Your Givers need a Dynamic Destination!
Your Givers need a Dynamic Destination!
You need to know where you’re going to get there, right?
I came across this message recently from Mike Dooley:

It’s not the day you have to manage, but the moment.
It’s not the dragon you have to slay, but the fear.
And it’s not the path you have to know, but the destination.
That last line stopped me.
Think about your GPS.
You don’t begin by entering every turn, every stoplight, every road condition, and every mile marker.
You begin with a destination.
Sometimes you have the exact street address. Sometimes only the city. Sometimes just the name of a place you hope to reach. But you cannot begin the journey without some idea of where you are going.
And THEN life happens.
Construction. Detours. Closed roads. Bad weather. Unexpected opportunities. A better route appears.
The destination remains.
I think fundraising works much the same way.
Too often organizations expect donors to imagine what is needed. We say things like, “Support our mission” or “Give what you can.”
Generous people want to help—but help do what?
Our giving opportunities – or what I call Vibrant Options for Giving become our donor destinations.
Clear giving options become destinations worth driving toward.
$5,000 provides a student scholarship.
$25,000 equips a science lab.
$100,000 launches a coaching position.
A $1 Million blended gift creates impact now and legacy later.
A multi-year commitment turns a donor’s big dream into a possible one.
Donors should not have to invent the roadmap. Our role is to paint clear destinations and invite people to imagine themselves helping us arrive.
And here’s the beautiful part.
When someone says, “I love this destination…but I’m not sure I can get there,” that is where we have this amazing chance to Create a Joyful Giver and a wonderful donor journey.

Maybe it means over time.
Maybe it means together with others.
Maybe it means a deferred gift.
Maybe it means a different vehicle entirely.

The destination can stay bold.
The route can flex.
So this week, ask yourself:
Are we giving people destinations…or asking them to wander?
Because generosity grows when people can clearly see where their investment will take them and we enjoy the journey to get there together!
